We spent the majority of Thursday morning clearing out trash and moving things out of the basement. Wednesday night after putting the girls to bed (at Mimi's and Pappy's house) I came back to a mostly waterless basement. By mostly waterless I mean that the water had gone down significantly to the point where the carpet was just heavily saturated. I was optimistic because that means the pumps were finally keeping up and doing its job. I went to bed anticipating the dry out process to take place in the next day. Unfortunately, I woke up to another 3-4 inches of water. We had more heavy rain overnight and even with 2 pumps going, my guess is that they simply couldn't keep up. It was definitely a downer seeing how I had 2 pumps going continuously all night and they still couldn't keep water from building up. But on the bright side, at least we had pumps. There are many others who are in the same predicament who can't even get a pump as they're sold out everywhere.
So I made sure that the pumps were running and went over to help get the girls ready for school. Josie's been so good about all this. She just thinks it's a long term sleepover. After taking them to school, I decided to get away for a bit to photograph some of the "aftermath" locally in our area. Here's what I came away with. The pictures do speak volume.
